Our safety & well-being communication tool sparks a continuous conversation in our sites

today, on World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we are proud to share that our safety & well-being communication tool, launched in 2021, keeps safe behaviour top of mind with our associates.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work

As the most common cause of accidents is unsafe behaviour, we decided to enhance our safety programme ‘I CARe, U2?’ with additional tools. Here, we have put our focus on Peer2Peer interaction, dialogues and constructive feedback on safe or unsafe behaviour amongst all our associates, individually and as a team, to spread safety leadership and attitudes.

I CARe application

The user-friendly ‘I CARe’ application allows associates to make Peer2Peer registrations on safe or unsafe behaviour. With this tool, we want to promote a work environment where exchanging experiences and ideas is only natural. This safety tool sparks a continuous conversation about safety by encouraging 'on the spot' registrations, that everyone can easily register this on their iPads or operating screens.

The 'Peer2Peer' tool was implemented in all of our sites as of 2022. With success, as our associates registered more than 13,000 safety interactions in the course of last year. This means that, on average, 53% associates registered at least one interaction per month. Group HSE Manager Rudi Ronneau: "Taking in account the rising amount of registrations, we can state that the Peer2Peer mindset was successfully adopted."

The basics of Peer2Peer:

🗣 In the event of unsafe behaviour, we ask to react and give constructive feedback. New safety ideas and positive feedback on safe behaviour are also highly valued.

🗣 Each P2P registration records the location, the topic, the observation, and the type of interaction.

🗣 The reporting is anonymous. Our ‘no name, no blame’ concept ensures an emotionally safe atmosphere, where people feel comfortable to make a contribution and to engage in dialogue with their peers.

🗣 It's a handy tool for site managers as they can also use this to propose improvements on the reported safety topics.
